Follow these emergency steps in order. If at any point you feel unsafe, evacuate and call for help immediately.
Safety First
If you smell gas, suspect carbon monoxide, or see sparks, evacuate immediately and call 911. Do not attempt to operate your system if you suspect a safety issue.
Turn off power to the Boiler and allow the system to cool down
Place a container under the Boiler relief valve discharge pipe to catch water
Check the Boiler pressure gauge to see if system pressure is too high
Verify the Boiler expansion tank is functioning properly not waterlogged
Call for professional Boiler service if the relief valve continues to discharge
